What: Hokulele Paddling Club Sugar Land Race
When: November 23 7:30am-12:30pm
Where: Marriott Courtyard Brooks Lake
Who: all paddlers and paddle crafts welcome!
Race course: 7 miles, 2 loops start and finish at the first fountain
Cost PER PERSON: $20 pre-register, $25 day of

Hokulele capped off October with a 31 mile race do

Hokulele capped off October with a 31 mile race down through the Tennessee River Gorge to compete in @chattajack which supports the @tnrivergorge. We took 2 oc6 mixed crews and several oc1 paddlers, including several first timers. We brought our #areoutriggerworld v6s, driving from Houston all the way to Chattanooga! Our A boat came in 2nd place and our B boat came in 10th! It was a tough and tight race and everyone did amazing! We also had a paddler racing with an all womens crew from Philadelphia and California who came in 1st place in their division! Congratulations to everyone and thank you to all our supporters!

Congratulations to our member Reginald for competing and placing 2nd in his class this past weekend in the Martindale Triathlon with @tckra_ . Reputed to be the oldest #triathlon in Texas, it is unique in that the swim leg is replaced with a paddle leg down the #sanmarcosriver. You can compete solo, 2-person tandem, or a 3-person relay.

10/20/24 Open Water State Championships hosted by @tckra

Hokelele and @hoewaaocc both had a great showing at the race.

Race conditions were extremely challenging. Hard breakers to get through, wind was > 25mph with probably 6 feet high waves.
There was a lot of discussion how to properly set up this course. The decision was made to go out through the breakers and have the start about 1 mile out from shore and do 4.5 loops beyond the breakers.

We want to commend all who came out on Sunday and also those who knew their limitations and decided to cheer the racers instead. That’s sometimes difficult to do. Safety first!

Only a few of us went out to the start line to do the 4.5 loops or just to go out and ride the waves back to shore.

In the end, we had members helping each other out when needed, some even forgoing their chance to complete the course.

Thanks to all the teams who competed @hoewaaocc, San Antonio Outrigger, Texas Outrigger Canoe Club, and anyone else we missed! Great weekend for racing in #texas !
Latese and Lauren took home 2nd place at the San Antonio River Basin Showdown - SASPAMCO series @sanantonioriver @tckra .They competed in a 12 mile pro race, taking them through a "wild" stretch of the #sanantonioriver along the SASPAMCO Paddling Trail.

Hokulele members also raced in the #greensbayouregatta in #houston . A 7.7 mile fun race that supports the mission of #greensbayoucoalition Greens Bayou Coalition to improve the quality of life in the Greens Bayou watershed, including the development of the Greens Bayou Paddle Trail.

Congrats to our members who competed in the Rotary Regatta on Clear Creek sponsored by Friendswood Rotary Club! The regatta is a 4 or 12 mile canoe / kayak / SUP race down Clear Creak from Friendswood's 1776 Park to raise awareness for the preservation of Clear Creek as a recreational feature and flood drainage for the region, and promote Rotary's Community Awareness. Way to go y'all! 🌠
